Kalonzo Musyoka has put livestock insurance among the proposals he is taking to pastoralist communities ahead of the 2027 election, saying families need protection against drought-related losses.

In an account of his 12 September visit to Garissa, the Wiper leader’s office said he travelled with Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa for a series of public meetings and stopovers.

The insurance proposal was presented as a campaign commitment. His office’s account did not provide premium costs, eligibility rules, a funding allocation or a timetable for enrolment. Those details would determine what protection households could actually receive.

Kalonzo also called for peaceful political competition and freedom of movement across communities. The policy pledge gives voters a specific proposal to examine as opposition leaders seek support beyond their established regional bases.

The next useful test is a written plan: who would be covered, who would pay, how losses would be assessed and which institution would deliver the scheme.
