Senators have asked Kajiado County to reconcile early-childhood teacher figures and explain how education allocations are reaching classrooms after a committee visit on 19 September.
Parliament’s account says the Senate Education Committee examined learning materials, staffing, meals, infrastructure and implementation of county programmes. The visit included ECDE centres at Moipei and Ole Lenku Township and Isinya Vocational Training Centre.
Committee members questioned differences between teacher numbers in the county’s report and those reported at the centres visited. They also sought explanations about materials described as budgeted or supplied but not evident during the inspections.
County education executive Janet Sereu attributed delays affecting some programmes to lengthy procurement procedures. Parliament’s report records her explanation that the county was working within the established procurement framework.
The concerns will inform the committee’s report and further engagement with the county. They should not be presented as a completed audit or a finding that funds were stolen. Reconciled staffing records and evidence of delivered supplies are the next documents to watch.
