Rigathi Gachagua has called on Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino to calm exchanges between their supporters as the Linda Mwananchi movement debates how to organise for the 2027 election.

In remarks reported by The Star on 19 September, the former deputy president said he had spoken separately with the Nairobi senator and the Embakasi East MP by phone. He also said he had asked Nyandarua Senator John Methu to help the discussions.

The disagreement concerns the political vehicle for the movement. Babu has promoted the Mwananchi Party and a coalition arrangement, while Ukombozi People’s Party has featured in discussions among other leaders. Those competing preferences do not establish that a final coalition agreement has been reached.

Babu reaffirmed support for Sifuna during remarks in Kisumu on 18 September, according to reports by The Star and Nyanza Daily. That public support is an important qualification to claims that the two politicians have already split.

The next concrete development would be an agreed structure and a public explanation of how participating parties will work together. For now, the reports show negotiations and appeals for unity rather than a completed electoral arrangement.
