President William Ruto has set out a wider development programme for Homa Bay after opening the Kendu Bay market during his Nyanza tour.
Kenya News Agency reported on 18 September that the opening took place the previous day. Ruto said the government was investing in markets, roads, housing, education, health and water, and described the new market as a better trading space for small businesses and fish vendors.
He said 21 modern markets were being built across the county at a cost of about Sh3.7 billion. He also outlined road and Lake Victoria infrastructure plans, including a proposed ring road whose construction he said would begin in November.
Those statements cover projects at different stages. Opening a market is a completed event; announcing a future road start or a proposed investment does not mean that the whole programme has been delivered.
Ruto also called for closer UDA–ODM cooperation. For residents, the next practical checks are procurement and construction progress, market access for traders and whether the promised transport links become operational on the stated schedule.
