Kasmuel McOure has declared unconditional support for President William Ruto’s re-election, saying the political loyalty he previously gave Raila Odinga has shifted to the President.
The Star reported the declaration on November 1. McOure framed his position as a matter of principle and said support for Ruto should not depend on particular individuals’ interests.
The declaration is his own political commitment. It is not a resolution binding ODM, a completed coalition agreement or evidence that the party’s supporters have collectively adopted the same position.
That distinction matters while other ODM leaders are asking for written commitments governing cooperation with UDA. An individual can offer unconditional backing even as a party seeks negotiated terms; the two should not be reported as interchangeable.
The political argument is about what support should secure. Unconditional backing prioritises commitment to a candidate, whereas negotiations seek an agreed programme and allocation of responsibilities before that commitment is made.
For voters, the useful documents will be the parties’ formal decisions and any agreement they publish. Those would show what has actually been promised, by whom, and under what authority. McOure’s statement adds a voice to the debate but does not settle those institutional questions.
