Cleophas Malala has renewed his appeal for Kalonzo Musyoka to support Edwin Sifuna’s presidential bid, maintaining a position that DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has already distinguished from the party’s official stance.
In remarks reported by The Star on November 1 as having been made on Saturday, Malala presented Sifuna as a candidate for generational change. He also said his request should not be read as disrespect for Kalonzo.
Gachagua’s earlier clarification remains material: Malala’s preference did not constitute a DCP endorsement. No subsequent formal party resolution was established in the reporting reviewed.
The renewed appeal therefore intensifies an internal political debate without resolving it. Malala is asking another presidential aspirant to step aside while his own party leader has kept the collective decision open.
Generational language can give a campaign a clear identity, but age alone does not answer questions about a coalition’s programme, selection rules or distribution of responsibilities. Those require agreement among the participants.
The next meaningful development would be an authorised DCP statement changing its position or a joint process accepted by the opposition parties. Until then, Malala’s intervention should be reported as advocacy for Sifuna, rather than evidence that either DCP or Kalonzo has made the requested decision.
