The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has begun the process for The Equitable Party to adopt the name Linda Mwananchi Movement, advancing the proposed rebranding associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

A letter dated 13 October, described in reporting published on Thursday, confirms that the Registrar received documents supporting the proposed change. These include a resolution from the party’s National Executive Committee meeting on 8 October.

The reported correspondence says the gazettement process has been initiated. That is a procedural step towards the new identity, rather than confirmation that the rename is complete or that a final registration decision has been issued.

The proposed change would bring the party’s formal name closer to the Linda Mwananchi political brand. For supporters and prospective partners, a settled party identity would make the organisation’s electoral vehicle clearer. It does not itself establish a coalition agreement or determine candidate nominations.

The outstanding evidence is the official notice and confirmation of completion by the Registrar. Public representations also form part of the process described in the correspondence. Until the final position is established, the distinction remains important: TEP’s proposed change has advanced, but the new name should not be presented as a completed registration.
