Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has proposed a package of interventions that he says could lower petrol and diesel prices by about Sh29 a litre.

According to The Star, his statement dated 15 October calls for a Sh10 reduction in importers’ and distributors’ margins, a Sh5.5 billion subsidy and removal of the Sh7 fuel-levy increase introduced in 2024.

The proposals are a request for government intervention, not a new price schedule. They do not mean that filling stations have been directed to charge the lower amounts.

Nyoro’s case is that fuel costs are placing additional pressure on households and businesses. Whether the suggested measures could deliver the full claimed saving depends on their design, financing and implementation.

The government would need to decide whether to adopt the package and explain its funding and effect on the pricing calculation. Until then, the Sh29 figure is the party’s proposed reduction rather than relief already delivered.
