Kenya has recorded seven confirmed cases of Ebola caused by Bundibugyo virus, including one death, according to Africa CDC’s update of 17 October.

The agency said the four newly confirmed patients were three healthcare workers and a family member of the initial patient. All had already been quarantined after exposure and were receiving supportive care.

Africa CDC’s statement says Kenyan authorities had traced and quarantined 128 of 130 identified contacts. Efforts to locate the remaining two were continuing.

The Ministry of Health reported no evidence of community transmission at that stage. That assessment describes the information available in the update; it is not a guarantee that the situation cannot change.

Africa CDC emphasised protective equipment, infection prevention and training for frontline staff, alongside surveillance and contact tracing. It directed people seeking guidance in Kenya to the Health Ministry’s toll-free 719 line and official updates.
