Ida Odinga has commissioned a national steering committee to coordinate events marking the first anniversary of former prime minister Raila Odinga’s death, with commemorations planned for 10–17 October.

The committee was unveiled in Nairobi on 17 September. It is chaired by Professor Adams Oloo and brings together the family and representatives from public institutions, civil society, academia and the private sector, according to Kenya News Agency’s account.

Ida said the programme should enable people across the country to remember and celebrate Raila. Citizen Digital’s report of the briefing also recorded the organisers’ emphasis on a national occasion guided by the family.

Oloo said proposals from individuals and institutions would be considered as the programme takes shape. Kenya News Agency reported that proposed activities remained subject to the committee’s assessment; readers should therefore distinguish the announced anniversary week from a confirmed itinerary for every event.

Raila died on 15 October 2025. The committee is expected to publish the calendar and participation information ahead of the anniversary. That publication will provide the practical details for people and organisations wishing to take part.
