The government plans to rehabilitate Ndalat, Kapng’ombe and Kapsigiryo dams in Nandi County as part of an effort to expand irrigation and improve water storage.

Citizen Digital reported that Irrigation Principal Secretary Ephantus Kimotho inspected Ndalat Dam in Mosop on Friday, 16 October.

At Ndalat, the proposed work includes clearing accumulated silt and vegetation, stabilising the embankment and building a spillway with downstream erosion protection. Those measures address both water availability and the condition of the structure.

The report gives a combined target of 2,380 acres of irrigation and 9,520 households across the three schemes. These are projected benefits, not a count of households already receiving new services.

Kapsigiryo accounts for most of the planned irrigation coverage. The announcement should therefore be judged against subsequent construction, operational water delivery and maintenance arrangements, rather than the inspection visit alone.
