The Anti-Counterfeit Authority says it seized 323 bags of fertiliser, two loaded lorries and packaging equipment during an operation in Matungu, Kakamega County.
In its 16 October statement, the authority valued the seized fertiliser at more than Sh1.6 million and said it was investigating suspected illegal repackaging.
ACA said preliminary investigations indicated that supplies from the government subsidy programme were being diverted into counterfeit Falcon-branded bags for sale at commercial prices. That is the authority’s account of a suspected scheme, not a court finding.
Two lorry drivers were arrested and were assisting investigators, according to the statement. Authorities said they were pursuing other suspected participants.
The operation raises questions about the protection of subsidised farm inputs and the integrity of branded products. The evidence, any charges and the responses of those implicated will determine how the case proceeds. An arrest alone does not establish guilt.
